Donate Life Month, April 11, 2003
at the Capitol Rotunda, Madison, noon to 1 p.m.
The Wisconsin Coalition on Donation hosted Donate Life: One Decision = Many Gifts, celebrating the 20th Anniversary of National Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Week and the proclamation of April as National Donate Life Month in Wisconsin. The event will take place on Friday, April 11, 2003 at the Capitol Rotunda in Madison, Wis. from noon - 1:00 p.m.
The event included speakers describing how the generous gift of life has directly affected their lives, including Trey Schwab, assistant coach for the Marquette University Men's Basketball Team, and Governor Jim Doyle.
Gov. Doyle proclaimed April as "Donate Life Month" throughout Wisconsin. "This designation underscores the critical need for donation and honors those individuals who have donated life," said Gov. Doyle. "I encourage all Wisconsin residents to sign their drive's license or donor card and most importantly, talk with their loved ones about their commitment. By increasing the donor pool we can save and improve thousands of lives, fostering a new day of hope for so many Wisconsin families."
The event was highlighted by a display on the dramatic impact of organ and tissue donation. Starting from the center of the room, 50 individuals moved with lengthy ribbons to the outside walls, covering the rotunda with a striking starburst display, visually illustrating the potential impact just one person can make on so many lives. One Decision = Many Gifts.
