Sarah's Stride,
May 18, 2002 - Sarah's Stride is held in honor of Sarah Hegarty,
a local teen who died in 1998 while awaiting a life-saving transplant.
She was a healthy 15-year-old sophomore at Divine Savior High School and an excellent athlete before falling ill. She lost her
fight for life March 16, 1998, at the age of 17.
Nearly 900 runners and walkers participated in the fourth annual
Sarah's Stride run/walk Saturday, May 18, 2002, at Hart Park, Wauwatosa,
raising $46,000 for organ donation awareness efforts in eastern
Wisconsin. Sarah's Stride raises funds for organ donor awareness
efforts throughout southeastern Wisconsin. The first three years
of the event funded an organ donation curriculum for state drivers'
education programs, an organ donation curriculum for state high
school health education teachers, and a website for the Wisconsin
Donor Network.
