Wisconsin State Fair, Aug. 1-11, 2002. Nearly 800 attendees to the Wisconsin State Fair signed up to be organ and tissue donors during the 10-day run of the annual fair, Aug. 1-11, 2002. The Wisconsin Donor Network hosts a booth at the fair to provide organ and tissue donation information to fair-goers. The booth is staffed 13 hours a day almost entirely by WDN volunteers, who are mostly transplant recipients and donor family members. Booth staff assisted 771 State Fair patrons in signing their driver's license or uniform donor card. There were 1,362 people who received written organ and tissue donation information or materials from the booth. Booth visitors also purchased $870 worth of organ donation T-shirts and sweatshirts at the fair. All funds are used for organ donation awareness efforts in eastern Wisconsin.
